THE CRITICAL EDITION OF THE WORKS OF GIOACHINO ROSSINI

Director of the edition Ilaria Narici

The Critical Edition of Rossini’s Works is a monumental publishing venture that began in 1971.

After years of intense studies and in-depth research, the first volume dedicated to the Gazza ladra was published in 1979.

The editorial plan includes the publication of all Rossini’s work, within a project that concerns not only the theatrical activity of the composer, but also the cantatas, the incidental music, the sacred productions and all the chamber music, vocal and instrumental, including that of the last years of the musician’s life, which he himself called Péchés de vieillesse.

The purpose of the Critical Edition is not only the philological restitution of the works, but also the creation of scores that concretely allow their execution.

The collaboration with the Rossini Opera Festival which began in 1980 has been fundamental. The Critical Editions of the Rossini Foundation are adopted for the performances, thus allowing an immediate verification of the work done from a philological and practical point of view.

Each performance is entrusted to a specialist, under the supervision and editorial direction of the Critical Edition and the advice of scholars who gravitate in the orbit of the Rossini Foundation.
