The Hercolani Collection is housed in the Civic Museums. The collection consists of 38 paintings and a marble bust. It came into the possession of The Rossini Foundation as part of Rossini’s inheritance. The composer had been given the collection to compensate a loan made to the noble Bolognese Hercolani family.
